Discovery Draft

A discovery draft is an early, incomplete draft of a manuscript where the author is still exploring where they want their book to go and what works: do the characters resonate with readers? Which plot threads lead to the heart of the story and which don't fit?

This service focuses on helping you find the most promising possibilities in your story when you aren't sure what direction the writing should go.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes. Most discovery drafts are done on manuscripts that aren't completed.

  • If you've finished your book and aren't sure it's going in the right direction, you may be a good candidate for a manuscript evaluation.

  • We can still talk about working together. Not every genre or book needs a specialist, sometimes that's up to you as the author to decide. And if we agree I'm not the right person for the job, I may be able to sugest someone who does work in your genre.

  • I don't use generative AI in my editing process. I also don't work on manuscripts that have been written or largely written using generative AI.

  • If you know you’re going to want multiple services, we can definitely talk about bundle plans or payment packages, depending on what you would like.

  • No. I’m afraid that is outside the scope of what I do.
